Thoughts: Trump Administration Realizes Renewable Energy Is Here To Stay?

One of the major pillars of President Trump's campaign during the presidential campaign run was to 'roll-back' all of 'Obama era regulations' and return to a 'fossil fuel' based economy.  Really?  Especially, given the fact that the world is headed toward greater renewable investment (as has been reported on this site too - see links at the end of the blog post) in the future.  As I have said before, I have nothing really against Donald Trump personally.  I would hope as a scientist that he would consider the science behind future decisions -- especially when those decisions impact the world around us and the health of our environment.  Below is a 'wake-up' call for the Administration - which is slowly ' sinking in' with regard to the inclusion of renewable energy into our world today.

Renewable Energy Is Here To Stay!

This morning, I woke up to find the following news regarding renewable energy sources in my e-mail box from 'Politico Energy':

TRUMP GRAPPLING WITH GREEN POWER: President Donald Trump has tried a myriad ways to enact policies that help fossil fuels and sap the momentum of solar and wind power. But one year into his presidency, he's repeatedly come up short. Pro's Eric Wolff counts the ways: "Energy Secretary Rick Perry's proposal to force electricity customers to subsidize ailing coal plants ran aground early this year. The Senate rebuffed efforts to water down tax credits for solar and wind power. And Trump's move this week to impose a tariff on imported solar panels should put only a crimp in the growth of sun-powered energy, analysts have said, despite the outcry it's generated from most of the U.S. solar industry."
Another facet the Trump administration is facing is a limit to its authority. Trump, in some cases, has been forced to take a compromise position, "for example by choosing a solar tariff low enough to ease the damage to U.S. companies that rely on access to low-cost panels from abroad for solar power plants and rooftop arrays," Eric writes.
He spent his campaign promoting an "America First" energy policy , and slammed solar as expensive and wind turbines as ugly. But after growing rapidly during the Obama years, Trump now faces a wind and solar industry that may have come too far for even a pro-fossil-fuel administration to stuff back into the barrel - especially after they've created tens of thousands of jobs in both red and blue states. "I think this administration really grappled with the understanding that solar is creating more jobs in this economy than many other industries and many other energy sources," Solar Energy Industries Association CEO Abigail Ross Hopper told reporters. "This [tariff] decision, while we're not happy with it ... does demonstrate some restraint, understanding that this impact is going to affect jobs and growth in the U.S." Read more.

There is no real need to carry on or 'beat the horse' to a pulpit with regard the role that renewable energy is playing in our current world.  Investment in fossil fuel companies is becoming a thing of the past - while investors are becoming more aware of the contents of their portfolios.  More aware and more environmentally conscious.

The excerpt above highlights the reality (not fiction) that 'real American jobs' are being created over the last few years in the renewable energy sector.  Job growth is only going to increase in the future.  Especially, when the renewable energy infrastructure plays a more prominent role in each geographical city.  There are barriers in each city (and state) which are present toward the 100% conversion to renewable energy sources.  The largest is the public opinion.  Although, as each of us motivate the change toward renewable sources to live in a more sustainable environment, the public opinion will eventually change.

We should be celebrating the fact that not only are renewable energy sources emerging.  Especially since our energy infrastructure is 'out dated' and in need of repair.  Natural resources should be derived from a sustainable source when possible.  Energy derived from wind and solar is the closest to capturing nature at its finest moment.  Why are we not as a nation (and world) taking advantage of natures gift to us instead of pulling out of the ground and polluting the environment.   The future growth of renewable energy infrastructure is exciting.  Join us.
