Fox News Host Tucker Carlson Can Dish It, But Can't Take Criticism

Photo: XL Country

News anchors seem to have a strange understanding of work/life relationships.  At work, their job is to get to the bottom of the story and tell both sides.  Whereas, after work, life is back in play, and they are a mother and father, a brother and sister, a daughter or son.  I am a scientist.  When I leave work, I am a scientist.  24 hours a day, 365 days per year, I am still a scientist.  What I say still is with me -- whether I leave work or not.  Reporters/celebrities feel that they are excluded from this line of thought.

A recent example was brought to light from a video by CNN show below.  To give the video context, CNN commentator Don Lemon defends Fox News Host Tucker Carlson (which is extremely rare).  In the video, a random person confronts Tucker Carlson in a store.  Tucker Carlson does not handle the situation effectively as shown:

Some might say that Tucker Carlson tried to diffuse the situation.  Diffusing the situation is not accomplished by calling the random person "son."  That is an avenue for a heated argument.  On top of that, Tucker Carlson wants to be able to say whatever he chooses to on his show.  And then choose to not be confronted by a person who is possibly put into danger by his word

Put on your big boy pants Tucker.  Grow up and deal with what you dish...to the public.

S.E. Cupp: GOP's Pushing Vaccine Reluctance Will Backfire On Party

Photo: Newsweek

S.E. Cupp has been around the Republican Party for a while.  There is no questioning her experience with the Party dynamics.  She has authored several books, including "Losing Our Religion: The Liberal Media's Attack on Christianity."   When S.E. Cupp speaks about issues with the Republican Party, people listen.

In a video below by CNN, S.E. Cupp discusses the downfall of the GOP Base due to promoting a vaccine scare.

Included is the fact that the longer Americans go unvaccinated, the longer we will be required to wear masks and have social distancing guidelines stated.  S.E. Cupp provides plenty of examples in history where a public debate erupted in each instance.  In all examples, science has been politicized and compromised as a result.

That is a dangerous result.  Science should not be politicized.  Any wedge driven between science and truth is dangerous.  Educate yourself on the science surrounding vaccines.

Recently, a breath of fresh air has crossed society.  A breath of Republicans starting to promote getting vaccinated.  Hopefully, this is a definite change of course for the better.

Dr. Fauci Corrects Senator Rand Paul's Misinformation Campaign

Photo: ABC News

Politicians are great at spinning a message to support their claims.  Meet Senator Rand Paul who is a mastermind at spinning.  Senator Rand Paul took over his daddy's seat in Congress and continue to persist in misinformation.  Especially, when the misinformation benefitted the claims leaving his mouth.

Two days ago, Congressional leaders had a panel assembled to look further into the origin of the Covid-19 virus out of China.  Specifically, was the virus tied to research that was funded by the United States National Institutes of Health?  During the committee hearing, words were exchanged and tension could be felt.

Senator Rand Paul moved in for an attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci.  Remember, Dr. Fauci is an expert in infectious disease transmission.  His work on AIDS in the 80's help control the uncontrollable spread throughout the world.  Rand Paul is a medical doctor by training.

The exchange is an appropriate correction of misinformation spread by Senator Rand Paul:

Good job Dr. Fauci.

Critics like CNN reporter Don Lemon have interviewed physicians to ask about the authenticity (i.e., accuracy) of Senator Rand Paul's comments/assertions.  Below is a video of those interviews by CNN:

Stay tuned as the insanity of misinformation continues to rain (or reign) over the world.  How do we combat the misinformation by Senator Rand Paul and others?   Educate yourself on the science behind the assertions in question.

Former President Trump Comments On The Terrible January 6th Insurrection Of The U.S. Capitol

Photo: NPR

Some people choose to attack the United States as foreign agents.  They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.  Alternately, some people act as domestic agents and attack the United States.  They, too, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.  The damage done represents a terrible situation that could have been avoided.  The blame lies with former President Trump along with GOP Senators.

Don't believe me?

In a recent interview with Washington Post reporter Philip Rucker about the newly-released video about the January 6th insurrection on the U.S. Capitol:

In the highlights of the July 20th airing of the Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel Maddow shows the strategic steps (with news clippings as evidence) as shown below:

If the above content (i.e., evidence) is not enough to convince a person that the GOP conspired with former President Trump about the January 6th insurrection, look at the video below.  The video is an interview on Morning Joe, with MSNBC Morning Joe Co-Host Mika Brzezinski interviewing the Assistant Speaker, Rep. Katherine Clark, about the non-partisan committee being chosen to investigate the January 6th attacks:

The evidence against former President Trump and friends is mounting as time passes.  Without the power to squash a commission (i.e., an investigation), the truth will eventually emerge.  The American people will hear the truth in years to come.  As time passes, each bit of news regarding the corruption of President Trump is not surprising.  Which is disappointing, to say the least.  The writing is on the wall.  The blame will follow.  Stay tuned.

Fox News Host: Tucker Carlson Has Created 'Tuckerism'

Photo: NBC News

TV ratings are based on 'clicks' and viewers who watch a given show.  News anchors love audiences as do other shows.  Although, some do better than others.  Clearly, one showman who has gained popularity on Fox News is Tucker Carlson.  That relatable man on TV who claims to be 'just like you' is actually a multimillionaire over and over.

Lately, with an audience built upon misinformation, Tucker Carlson has taken over former President Trump's spot of creating 'Trumpism' with a spin-off called Tuckerism.  To explain what exactly 'Tuckerism' is, we look to the commentary offered in the video below by CNN:

Wow!

Tucker Carlson has a great understanding of the correlation between ratings and pay raises.  His father was a 'gonzo journalist' back in the day.  The lies that Tucker Carlson spreads regarding the efficacy of vaccines along with others contribute to the fear among the U.S. population.  The growing fears regarding vaccines is uncontrollable and is amplified instead of the data that science offers to prove the efficacy.  Which is sad.  Educate yourself.

Corona Virus Update From Dr. Scott Gottlieb

Photo: Wikipedia

Dr. Scott Gottlieb has been very sought after by news outlets over the last month.  Due to the rising rates of COVID-19 variant - delta variant - spreading throughout the world.  Concerns are mounting over lifting restrictions across the United States from the last 18 months of isolation.  These concerns and others associated with rising rates are causing CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) to rethink the past, in order to strategize for the future.

Among those professionals is former Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Dr. Scott Gottlieb.  Below is an interview from last week, aired on MSNBC of Dr. Gottlieb discussing the changes moving forward along with the present state of COVID-19:

One sure aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic effort moving forward will be the changing (i.e. optimization) of protocols and safety measures to different geographical areas in the United States.  That, of course, will depend on the public's ability to adapt to changes and accept the data that science has to offer at any given time.

First and foremost, remember, the COVID-19 vaccination is the best way to defend your body against the changing virus.  Stay up to date on the science.  Educate yourself to the best of your ability.  Think logically.  Try not to engage in conspiratorial thinking which is counterintuitive to the data of science.

Republicans Love To Quote Dr. Martin Luther King Without Context

Photo: CUNY

Critical Race Theory is being developed around the country today.  Racism has been present throughout the history of the United States of America.  The School curriculum has left out a major portion of the story of racism for obvious reasons.  The fact is that certain political figures are rising up against the challenge of the old to insert a new lesson into history.  That lesson is to be inclusive.

Part of the rising up is the most common act of misquoting the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Members of the GOP have been appearing on news quoting the same part of a speech Dr. King gave without giving context.  In the interview below, MSNBC news anchor Joy Reid interviews Dr. Bernice King - the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. about the absurd quoting without context:

We the people have a long way to go.  But the momentum for change is building among us which is inspiring.  Keep building the momentum toward meaningful change.

Ralph Nader: Mind-Stretching Summertime Book Recommendations

Photo:  The Growth Faculty

Books have the ability to transfer a person to another world.  Many readers lay or sit down to read fiction to escape the reality of the world at present.  Others read nonfiction to learn more about the world.  One could argue that both ways are ways to learn about the world.  Where do you find your books to read?  Who makes up the list of your mental debt?

Reading widely is important to cast as wide of an intellectual net as possible. Looking toward activists and leading intellectuals is a good place to start.  Technologists have great suggestions too.  In my mind, everyone can give a good book suggestion.  Although, that requires an open mind.

In a recent newsletter, Ralph Nader gives us a book selection for the summer to inspire thought-provoking ideas about the world around us:

Mind-Stretching Summertime Book Recommendations

1. Honor Thy Label: Dr. Bronner’s Unconventional Journey to a Clean, Green, and Ethical Supply Chain by Gero Leson. Dr. Leson, Bronner’s vice president, tells the inside story of pioneering efforts for “building and scaling” ethical production, cooperating with suppliers in Sri Lanka, Ghana, India, Palestine, and beyond, and embracing Fair Trade and Regenerative organic agriculture.

2. To Be A Water Protector: The Rise of the Wiindigoo Slayers by Winona LaDuke. To readers who take water for granted, read LaDuke, indigenous leader, farmer, advocate, and inimitable storyteller about natives who, beset by ruthless extractive corporations, can’t take water for granted. Learn about water protectors in action by the few and for the many.

3. When Reagan Sent in the Marines by Patrick J. Sloyan. A Sloyan classic of on the ground reporting in Lebanon, with broader contexts, and a historical contribution in understanding what happened, why, and the consequences. Certainly a required reading by those in the State Department, the Pentagon, Congress, and peace advocates everywhere.

4. The Hospital: Life, Death, and Dollars in a Small American Town by Brian Alexander. This small Ohio community hospital, struggling to continue, reveals, in the hands of master narrator, Alexander, the sickness, greed, rapacity, and cruelty of the so-called health industry. He exposes “the human cost of the war being waged on Americans by the medical industry, politicians, and big businesses.” Single-payer anyone? (See: singlepayeraction.org).

5. The United States of War: A Global History of America’s Endless Conflicts, from Columbus to the Islamic State by David Vine. It takes an anthropologist, who gets into the field, to describe “the powerful forces that have shaped the permanent system of imperial war in which the United States is trapped today.” As Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson (Ret) declares: “This book will stir your soul – if you have one left – to action.”

6. The Case Against George W. Bush by Steven C. Markoff, with a foreword by Richard A. Clarke, who was a special assistant to GWB for national security. Markoff doesn’t forget the massive war crimes of GWB who, receiving ample lecture and book advance fees, never looks back on the thousands of U.S. soldiers who lost their lives or their health while causing over one million innocent Iraqi deaths and the pulverizing of Iraqi society, which is in chaos to this day. Markoff wants George W. Bush brought to justice. He makes the case with relentless documentation.

7. Defending the Public Enemy: The Life and Legacy of Ramsey Clark by Lonnie T. Brown Jr. From his time as U.S. Attorney General until his recent passing, Ramsey Clark’s remarkably brave engagements for human rights, uncompromising due process of law even for a captive dictator, and the plight of the downtrodden, received scant media attention. This book resurrects the story of an authentic, selfless life of a tireless American advocate for global justice. (Also see the documentary: Citizen Clark: A Life of Principle).

8. America’s Mighty Medical-Industrial Complex: Negative Impacts and Positive Solutions by Dr. John Geyman. Even if you’re not one of the many millions of Americans harmed, defrauded, or denied by the healthcare corporations, the drug companies, and giant taxpayer-subsidized insurers, this clear compelling book will make your blood boil. A former family practitioner, professor of medicine and author of a dozen books on this industry, Dr. Geyman makes the case for Single-payer – comprehensive, lifesaving, less expensive with free choice of physician and hospital. He’ll send a free copy of his book, in your name, to your members of Congress if you send him a personal note to your Senator or Representative and demand a considered response. Send your note and the name of your Representative and/or Senators to: jgeyman@uw.edu).

9. Lincolnomics: How President Lincoln Constructed the Great American Economy by John F. Wasik. While revealing as history, Wasik’s account about the first Republican President’s launches of infrastructure shame the ignorant, obstinate, narcissist Republicans of today who wish instead to build up tyrant Trump’s political infrastructure. This is a book to be read and used today.

10. Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (Eleventh Edition). Why not read the dictionary as you read a history or a novel, page by page? It’s a wonderful educational immersion that excoriates tedium and opens zillions of windows. (There are also many informative sketches in modern dictionaries).

On the gift shop wall at the American Museum of Tort Law (take a virtual tour at tortmuseum.org), where there is a sign that declares: “Readers Think and Thinkers Read.” They also are more likely to engage in strengthening our deteriorating democracy – a task that is easier than we think. (See, Breaking Through Power, both the book and the eight days at Constitution Hall).

I look forward to reading and discussing/commenting on the selection above.  Enjoy the reads!

Don't Mess With Grandma's Fortune

Photo: The Columbus Reporter

Financial scams are abundant among the elderly who have saved up their entire lifetimes for retirement.  Money prudently saved and invested.  Money that is gone in the stroke of a pen writing a check.  But that took a lifetime of hard work and effort to earn.  Scams are abundant from outsiders.  What happens when the scammers are among family members?

According to Bloomberg Financial Reporter, Tom Schoenberg, Beverley Schottenstein is one such unfortunate 93-year-old grandmother who experienced a scam from within her own family:

Don't mess with Grandma!

President Obama Opens Up About Misinformation in the News Cycle

Photo: the White House

Misinformation within the news seems to be the new normal today.  This is surprising because technology has allowed the digital editing and mining process to improve vastly in the past few decades.  Although, the improvement in technology has also increased the amount of news output in a given news cycle.  News cycles are continuous instead of discrete.  Stories are updated constantly around the clock as news breaks.  That causes an explosion of news.

The regulators of news are the members of the Chambers of Congress. Thus, regulation is set from within the halls of Congress.  Whether or not that news is regulated has been lately a matter of partisan focus.  Former President Barack Obama has weighed in on the matter while speaking at a library-associated conference.  The feed is offered by CNN in a video below:

Hopefully, the regulation of misinformation will be entertained by elected officials in the future.

New Revelations About President Trump's COVID-19 Response: Science Is Depressing, Don't Worry About The Virus

Photo: Financial Times

Science has been a difficult subject for many in grade school up through the graduate school.  The changing landscape of evidence keeps the reader on their toes.  For professionals outside of the scientific research field looking in, the view can be confusing at times.  Where does the evidence take us?  What is the absolute answer?  The public does not like uncertainty.

Unfortunately, uncertainty is inherently built into science research.  That uncertainty causes great uneasiness in most people, especially in people who do not have the mental bandwidth to absorb or entertain scientific data.  The progress of scientific research made during the COVID-19 is almost unparalleled to any other time in history.  Technology will change as a result of the pandemic.

With that being said, still, some believe that the scientific community dropped the ball during the pandemic.  Public influencers such as former President Trump have caused a great amount of stress to the science community by creating large amounts of doubt.  Doubt that should not be present.

But, as two Washington Posts journalists write about in their new book titled "Nightmare Scenario," the public learns the great uncertainty which filled the White House during a world pandemic.  The White House staff had to deal with a clown in charge of one of the largest threats to our nation in the last few decades.

In the video below, the two journalists, Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta are interviewed by MSNBC reporter Nicole Wallace regarding the shocking revelations about the lack of leadership which filled the Oval Office during the pandemic:

One overarching truth that is not highlighted in the news worldwide is that the White House has access to the best scientific data available on the pandemic. Unfortunately, instead of believing the world-renowned scientists whose work is supported by the government, the White House staff let President Trump give credence to the conspiracy news (fake news) propagated by Fox News Hosts.

Simple incredible, and tremendously disappointing.

The revelation regarding the handling of the pandemic is extremely disappointing.  Although, the new ranking of 2021 of top Presidents in History has just been released.  That list has former President Trump in the bottom 5 Presidents in history -- which means -- Trump ranks among the 5 worst Presidents in history.  Is that really surprising?  Not really.

Former Vice President Al Gore: Republicans Are Pushing "AI" -- "Artificial Insanity" -- Through Echo Chambers Online

Photo: Wired

The Republican Party has been pushing straight out lies with contesting the past presidential election.  With that in mind, Republicans feel the need to include in that conspiracy a whole host of other lies about important issues.  Which is not surprising.  Why not pile lies on top of lies?  This process has reached a climax that needs to end quickly.

Former Vice President Al Gore was interviewed recently by CNN news anchor Pamela Brown about the Republican Party's inability to accept a loss of an election in the video below:

For those who do not choose to watch the video above, in 2000, an election was contested too.  The former Vice President Al Gore did concede for the 'good of the Nation.'  Which leads me to ask the question regarding former President Trump's election lie position along with the Republican Party:

Why can't the Republican Party along with former President Trump concede for the 'good of the Nation'??

Much will be revealed in the years to come.  How bipartisanship will occur during this deeply divided time is unknown at the moment.  But time will tell how long division among Americans will continue to hold hostage the progress of American Democracy.
