Minorities Experience Greater Discrimination In Housing Market Purchases Compared To Others

Photo: List With Clever

Racial inequity has been occurring for decades, if not centuries.  Why does this inequity persist?  This line of questioning can be extended further to gender inequity too.  But for now, I would like to highlight a video that shows a major inequity in the real estate market.  Below is a video from CNN showing blatant discrimination of a black couple requesting an appraisal of their renovated home for refinancing purposes:

This is just crazy.  When is this going to stop?

Pastor Dies From COVID-19 After Preaching Against Vaccinations

Photo: CNN

Why would anyone rally against vaccinations for the COVID-19 virus?  Going against scientific data is becoming a popular movement.  Especially, among Republicans.  Frustrations are centered around mask mandates and limitations placed on people (and businesses) over the last year and a half.  Is that a valid reason to go against scientific evidence and advocate against vaccinations?

Pastor Mark Lamb seems to think that is a good pathway to pursue.  Of course, Paster Mark Lamb could not be interviewed for this blog post.  The reason is that Past Mark Lamb passed away from complications due to COVID-19.  Yes, you read correctly.  The hypocrisy is highlighted in the short segment from CNN below:

Wow!  Follow science and get vaccinated today.

Republican Men Want Control Of Their Bodies, While Woman Don't Get Any Control Over Their Bodies?

Photo: Business Insider

Politicians are notorious for stretching the truth to either far ends of the spectrum.  We are living in a unique time at the present moment.  We are confronted with a pandemic caused by a COVID-19 virus spreading around the world.  At the same time, we are confronted by a conservative majority on the United States Supreme Court.  Now, we are seeing the hypocrisy which is blatant.

Recently, the Supreme Court has ruled that women do not have control over their bodies.  Abortion bans are cropping up across America.  If the court decides to rule in favor of such bans, then women will lose control over their bodies completely.  Below are two videos that discuss the problem at hand:

All of this while Republican men, in particular, are up in arms that the government is forcing them to get vaccinated against their liking.  Think about this moment in time, where two issues stand against one another:

Men do not want to lose control over their bodies -- have to get vaccinated.

Women do not want to lose control over their bodies -- lose the right to choose.

We are living in a conundrum of hypocrisy.

Finally, if the Republican Party is against funding a 'socialized state', then why are they inadvertently creating one.  Creating one by supporting what one Justice used as a support to ban abortion.  Which is, according to her, the freedom to drop an infant child -- surrender the baby -- to give it up for adoption.

How does that help the foster system?  Which is funded by the government?

If there is one person who has knowledge of the spread of COVID-19 across the world, that person is Dr. Francis Collins of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  He is the director of the NIH.  Which is composed of institutes across the world.  Research conducted in the United States is funded by the majority by the NIH -- which is funded by Congress.  Our tax dollars fund the research funds distributed by the NIH.

In an interview by MSNBC Morning Joe - Joe Scarborough, Director Dr. Francis Collins gives us an update on the spread of COVID-19 throughout the world.  Which includes new variants:

Get Vaccinated - Get the booster.  Stay safe.

How Do You Deal With Someone Else's Outsized Ego? Ask Rapper JayZ

Photo:  Rolling Stones

Each of us has met our fair share of people with an outsized ego.  An ego that is about as big as the planet Earth?  Yes.  At times, I have acted with such an ego and learned to tame it back down to scale.  As I get older, my ego has been through countless optimizations -- and is humbled.  Taming an ego is difficult sometimes.

How do you deal with people with outsized egos?

Ask rap star and entrepreneur Jay Z.  What?  Really?  If there is one person who has been confronted by outsized egos from potential clients to bosses, Jay Z would qualify.  In his rise to fame, countless egos have passed him and stood in his way.  How did he get around them?  To achieve success?

In the video below, he is interviewed on this very question.  Here is what he says...

Stay humbled. Learn and earn respect and cash.

A large number of Americans suffer from weight gain.  We are generally overweight as a population.  I know that I am heavier now than at any other point in my life.  Yes, the gym is on the New Year's Resolution List.  But more importantly, starting to walk incrementally is also being executed.

Meet Vance.  Vance was watching a fitness guru challenge him (and other viewers) from the comfort of his armchair.  Suddenly, a thought of motivation occurred.  Dedicate one year to the described workout and see what happens?  What could be the worst-case scenario -- no weight loss?

In the video below, watch through the incremental workout - walking and yoga - a man loses 198 pounds in a single year.  If this video does not move you to tears, I do not know what will:

A Sad Time In America...Kyle Rittenhouse Is Let Off The Hook...Why?

Photo: NBC News

Why would a 17-year-old child feel compelled to carry an assault rifle into a 'Black Lives Matter' protest?  Who told him to do so?  Where were his parents?  How did a child get ahold of an assault rifle?  These are the larger questions that linger on the public's mind after a jury acquitted the 17-year-old last week of murdering 3 human beings.

That is right.  A kid murdered 3 human beings.  3 lives that had potential that will forever remain unknown.  No one wins in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse.  Further, I would predict that this is not the last time that he appears in the news.

There are larger questions than those proposed in the introduction paragraph.  Questions that surround racial issues.  This qualifies as a 'hate crime'.  Carrying an assault rifle into a racial protest.  Listen to the guests on MSNBC Ari Melber's Show explain:

Many questions remain unanswered about the future direction of our nation after this tragedy.

Republicans Make Texas First Successful Case Of Redistricting Voting Zones To Favor White Citizens

Photo: YouTube

It is a sad day in America.  A day when we realize that successful campaigns across America are being carried out to enforce/enact voter suppression.  Voter suppression that favors white citizens.  This makes me sick to my stomach.  The three white men sitting in front of the meeting in the video below exemplify what is wrong with America.

Rachel Maddow interviews and highlights the case in Galveston, Texas -- where the last minority is being voted off the council to successfully redistrict his zone to favor white voters.  There are even white voters in the crowd who are disappointed and surprised at the committee's action:

This is what is wrong with America.  Old White Male Priviledge.  When is change going to be taken seriously to give voter equality a shot (a permanent shot) in America?

Alex Jones Is Going To Pay For Spreading Lies About Sandy Hook Shooting

Photo: CNN

Raising a child is an amazing opportunity.  The process is unexplainable.  Being a parent is an experience that is unforgiving, completely educational and a lifelong process.  What happens when that process is cut short?  Further, what happens when an internet influencer decides to erase the loss of a child?

That has happened over the last few years for the parents of the children who were lost in the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary shooting massacre in December 2012. CBS News has covered the recent case in court that Alex Jones has lost.  The case was brought by the parents of the children lost in Sandy Hook Elementary.  Alex Jones has profited financially and was influential by peddling the misinformation about the mass shooting.

Who does that?  Why would he deny that the shooting actually occurred? Further promoting the idea that the children and parents were actors?  This is not a game.  The people lost children.  What a terrible person to promote such an idea.  I hope that the jury awards enough money to the parents such that Alex Jones is put out of business financially.

Former President Trump's Post Master General Louis DeJoy has successfully implemented measures over the last few years to destroy the Postal Service.  Instead of reviving the service, his team has been looking to dismantle the service in hopes that private corporations might make up the difference while giving back profit to shareholders.  I.E. Privatization!

In a recent newsletter, Activist Ralph Nader talks about reporter Christopher Low's new book on how to revive the U.S.P.S:

New Book Shines Ways to Rebound Our Historic Postal Service

The preventable plight of the U.S. Postal Service, with its over 30,000 post offices, is an important issue for all Americans.  When President Donald J. Trump’s donor and henchman Louis DeJoy became postmaster general in 2020, he started to dismantle the agency.  Thousands of citizens responded by participating in demonstrations that revealed a deep civic commitment to preserving the people’s post office.

While DeJoy triggered a crisis that threatened the presidential election process, attacks on the Postal Service have been ongoing for decades.  The anti-postal campaigns by corporate interests have remained a continuing source of frustration to those of us who have observed the Postal Service’s decline due to unimaginative management, a deck stacked to favor for-profit rivals such as FedEx and UPS, and unfair financial obligations and delivery prohibitions (for example, on wine and beer) imposed by Congress.

The Postal Service is facing a manufactured financial crisis that is primarily the result of a congressional mandate dating back to 2006 that required the agency to pre-fund the next seventy-five years of retiree health benefits in one decade.  This pre-payment requirement is something that no other federal government agency or private corporation attempts to do—not to mention that there is no actuarial justification for such an accelerated payment schedule.  The pre-funding requirement effectively forces the Postal Service to finance a $72 billion retiree health benefits fund for future employees who have not even been born yet.  Despite these facts, Congress has refused to correct the host of problems resulting from its requirements.

The financial pressure resulting from the burdensome pre-payment schedule has led to negative impacts on service for all postal patrons.  Postmaster General DeJoy’s ten-year plan proposes saving the agency money through cutting service and raising prices, which is a formula for sabotage.  He already introduced service changes that have delayed the delivery of all first-class letters on a permanent basis.  As a result, mail is now being delivered up to two days later than before.

Unlike DeJoy, our first postmaster general, Benjamin Franklin, was known for his can-do verve and his appreciation of efficiency and innovation.  Franklin was eager to find ways to have the mail delivered more quickly.  As a stand-alone structure, he never would have imagined that someday post offices would mutate into a counter or kiosk inside a Staples store—or some other big-box store or shopping mall—as recent postmasters general have urged and widely advertised.

The need for postal reform is not just a matter of endangered post offices, disappearing blue mailboxes, slow mail delivery, or the fight to maintain delivery on Saturday, important as these issues are.  Instead of disabling and eventually dismantling the Postal Service, this is the moment to expand postal services.  Congress especially must act to protect rural communities, small businesses, the elderly, and the disabled, among others, by reasserting its authority over the Postal Service and putting a stop to irresponsible cutbacks.  These policies not only threaten the future of the Postal Service in the long term; in the short term, they harm the ability of small businesses to carry out their operations in a timely manner and inhibit the elderly’s ability to receive essential medications by mail.  They also drive ever more consumers away from the Postal Service and toward commercial delivery corporations such as UPS and FedEx.

Post offices ought to offer an honest notary service (badly needed in an era of robo-signings), sales of fishing and hunting licenses, and an option to have gifts wrapped, among other new services.  The Postal Service should accept wine and beer for delivery as FedEx and UPS do, and start delivering groceries as well.  In addition, there is the widespread need for postal banking, given many millions of Americans are without bank accounts.  This service actually existed until 1966 when the political lobbying of bankers terminated the successful and accessible program in communities throughout our country.  The Postal Service recently started a pilot program to test check-cashing services in four select post offices on the East Coast.  This program needs to be expanded to more post offices and be better publicized.

The future potential of the Postal Service is made clear in the just published book First Class: The U.S. Postal Service, Democracy, and the Corporate Threat (City Lights Books) by Christopher W. Shaw, which could not be more timely.  Shaw investigates why this essential service is in danger, explains how to fight back against its dismantling, and explores what can be done to improve and expand our postal system and have more consumer representation on the Postal Service Board of Governors.

Ninety Members of Congress have called on the Postal Service Board of Governors to remove Postmaster General DeJoy.  In addition to DeJoy’s ruinous USPS policies, he is under investigation by the FBI over illegal political fundraising tactics, and DeJoy’s family has financial ties with XPO Logistics, a company that in April the Postal Service awarded a multi-million-dollar contract.  With the terms of two Postal Service Board of Governors expiring in one month, it’s time for President Biden to appoint new members who will not behave like rubber stamps for DeJoy and his destructive time in office.

The Postal Service is a fundamental institution that binds our country together.  It can and should be updated and freed from the shackles of corporations.  Showing up is half of democracy, so the question for citizens today is: “Are we going to show up for our post office?”  Shaw’s book lights the path forward for all Americans.

Privatizing the United States Postal Service would be a terrible idea.  Definite measures (i.e. actions) need to be taken to revive the postal service.  First, remove PostMaster General Louis DeJoy.

Why Democrats Are A Problem For Their Values?

Photo: Guardian

The hopeful gains in electing President Biden into office have since evaporated.  Holding a majority in the Senate, Democrats have failed to pass meaningful legislation.  The infrastructure bill which was hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has since been scaled back.  Bipartisan legislation is a culprit.  Former President Donald J. Trump got to add nearly 37% to the national deficit.  Although, under President Biden, Republicans want to pump the brakes on spending.  Especially while coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.  What is going on here?

Well, Democrats are not without blame here.  As described in the 15-minute long video below (which is worth watching), Blue States are part of the problem.  NYT video journalists have assembled a great short piece on the issue at hand:

Bipartisan legislation is good in theory.  When you have players on both sides who want to pass important and meaningful legislation.  The current bipartisan nature in both Chambers of Congress suggest that Republicans are obstructionists.  Meanwhile, in the Blue States, Democrats seem to have issues of their own kind directly related to the concept of NIMBY-Not In My Back Yard -- Sir or Ma'am.

Rudy Giuliani Has Reckless Disregard For Companies Reputation Under Oath

Photo: CNN

If enough time passes, the truth will emerge about a given situation.  Of course, depending on the level of national security involved in the matter, that time might be infinite.  In the case of promoting the election falsehoods of the 2020 presidential election, the truth is emerging.  Sydney Powell -- Trump Lawyer -- along with Rudy Giuliani has been deposed in court over their claims (on television) of voter fraud.

In the video below, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo shows that Rudy Giuliani cannot be bothered to look into the veracity of the claims.  Additionally, Sidney Powell did not believe the truth was part of the claim.  Watch and be stunned:

The truth may appear differently on Fox News or One News Network.  Although, in a court of law, people are held to tell the truth.  Be careful what you see on tv.

Ralph Nader: Microchip, Macro Impact, Micro Vision

Photo: Wikipedia

Have you ever invested money into a publicly held company?  Meaning, have you ever purchased stocks of a company?  How about trying the popularized strategy of 'buy low, sell high'?  That involves timing and knowledge.  Knowledge which is held in documents produced for the SEC - Securities and Exchange Commission -- i.e. the stock market police.

Recently, in his newsletter, Ralph Nader commented on the popular reporting form SEC form 10K and the abundance of information contained in it about the fitness of a corporation:

Microchip, Macro Impact, Micro Vision

Let’s say you’re looking to invest some savings in the expanding micro-chip industry and a friend hands you the 2021 Annual Report of the Delaware (chartered) Corporation, Microchip Technology, a firm based in Chandler, Arizona. You’re a studious type and want to know what the company is producing before deciding if becoming a shareholder-owner is for you.

The Annual Report is a weighty 200 pages. You start reading. “This past fiscal year has been a year of remarkable performance and resilience for Microchip” …. “Microchip was able to achieve records for net sales…. It was heartening to see the ‘One World, One Microchip’ spirit of our employees.”

But what does Microchip produce, make, manufacture, innovate, distribute, impact, and for whom in particular? You still can’t find out but there are plenty of pages to go. After telling me briefly about their diversity and sustainability goals, the company zeroes in on the management’s proposals that it wishes shareholders to approve. It is all pretty routine stuff: they include the election of directors, a two-for-one stock split, restatement of its Equity Incentive Plan, ratification of their public accounting firm, Ernst & Young, then on to the “Approval of Executive Compensation.”

All this took the report to page 33 and still nothing about what the company actually does. Then the executives running Microchip get down to THEIR business at hand, which is the money they want to be paid. Thirteen pages are devoted to “Executive Compensation,” 16 pages to “compensation of named executive officers,” another four pages on the “Equity Compensation Plan Information” and “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.” Still nothing about the company’s reason for being.

Suddenly, the Annual Report moves into the land of mind-numbing appendices totaling about 130 pages so abstruse they cannot be summarily described in the Table of Contents.

I moved through the pages warily. Appendix A covers amending the certification of incorporation, followed by an amendment certificate regarding preferred stock, then thirteen pages on the 2004 Equity Incentive Plan mostly for the top brass. Then comes 58 pages containing the usual Form 10-K mandated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The SEC is supposed to protect investors. The first section of this compulsory Form 10-K finally tells us that “We develop, manufacture and sell smart, connected and secure embedded control solutions used by our customers for a wide variety of applications …. Our broad product portfolio is a Total System Solution (TSS) for our customers that provide a large portion of the silicon requirements in their applications.” Hmmm.

Then suddenly in one long sentence, Microchip slides down its abstraction ladder and exposes itself. “Our synergistic product portfolio empowers disruptive growth trends, including 5G, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving, and electric vehicles, in key end markets such as automotive, aerospace and defense, communications, consumer, data centers and computing, and industrial.”

Whoa! Many questions arise as I read on for elaborations of these “disruptive growth trends.” There is a list of products such as medical devices and smart meters containing Microchip’s chips and some mention of product lines, its outsourcing of much of its wafer fabrications and then it is on to SEC disclosure requirements about all boilerplate risks to their operations, whether real or hypothetical for some 19 additional pages. More pages about risks, micro-financial statements regarding subsidiaries, exhibits, consolidated balance sheets, income statements, and then detailed notes to these Financial Aggregations. The Report’s final pages end with ever more micro-data of interest to accounting specialists and the cautious SEC.

Company annual reports are obviously self-congratulatory. They, of course, claim they care for the environment, are in compliance with laws, and sensitive to their “human resources” otherwise known as their workers. But one would never know of any serious problems affecting their products that “empower disruptive growth,” the downsides of how these products are used in such new forays as little questioned 5G, unreliable autonomous cars and unlawfully launched weapons of mass destruction, plus the onrushing automation of all human life.

Nothing along these downstream lines concerns Microchip’s leaders who seem OK with ‘we’re just following chip orders.’ The SEC goes along by not requiring different qualities of disclosures and greater shareholder rights. After all, Microchip is only a chip and wafer dispensary, just like the earlier manufacturers of screws, nails, and adhesives. It is as if it is all only a difference in degree instead of major differences in kind for the human race and its exploited natural world.

Microchip knows far more than it is telling. Just like other companies in its industry. “Mums” the word. There are no reflections; it is only about dollars. The Annual Report is telling shareholders to just stick to their monetized appetites and watch the stock split, which makes them feel better along with their 1% dividend.

Not all companies leave their shareholders so deprived of their companies’ information and special forebodings. Publicly held firms such as Interface, Ben & Jerry’s, the early Body Shop, and former Midas Muffler, spoke to the wider ranges of corporate obligations beyond the bottom line.

However, most corporations, especially giants like Apple and ExxonMobil, want it both ways. They want to be viewed legally as “persons” to receive all the constitutional rights as do real human beings, in addition to their added immunities and privileges as enormous powerful artificial entities. Yet they then constantly behave as if they are just amoral (some would say immoral) entities sworn to only maximize profits for shareholders. Why then have the bosses stripped their companies’ owners of almost every power except to say yes to management?

Maybe someday, the giant institutional shareholders – Blackrock, Vanguard, Fidelity, and the large pension funds, etc. – may start treating the companies they invest in by standards and expectations accorded to their purported status as “persons.”

The skeptics may reply: “why should they, they’re large top-down corporations too.”

True enough. The change will come from the people through controlling their Congress. It takes one percent or less of voters, organized in congressional districts and reflecting public opinion, to get things accomplished.  Basic corporate reform is difficult but easier than you think. (See, Breaking Through Power: It’s Easier Than We Think).

Couple Gets Asked To Leave Restaurant For Wearing Masks

Photo: SF Gate

People across the world are experiencing mask fatigue.  That has been growing as the vaccinations have been rolling out.  Now, states like Louisiana are lifting mask mandates.  Why are states going against scientific data?  Evidence still favors mask mandates to protect us during flu season.

In the video below, a CNN new Anchor interviews a couple who was asked to leave a restaurant for wearing a mask:

Wearing a mask to protect children who suffer from cystic fibrosis?  Makes sense to me.  Why in the world would anyone ask a couple to remove their masks to put their child in danger?  A child with a compromised immune system.  What is wrong with people?

Ralph Nader: Reporter's Alert

Photo: Shutterstock

Reporting the news has become increasingly difficult in the fast pace changing world that we currently live in.  News changes in a matter of minutes.  Stories developed over the course of days can be squashed in a matter of minutes with the release of new current news.  List of available stories pile up in journalists' email files.  How does the public keep journalists true to their word about covering stories which are of concern to people?  Ralph Nader has come up with a solution by tackling the problem on his own.

In Mr. Nader's weekly newsletter, a shortlist of entries for the Reporter's Alert were written down as a teaser and are shown below:

Reporter’s Alert: Part VI

Reporters at major newspapers and magazines are hard to reach by telephone. Today it is increasingly hard to converse with them about timely scoops, leads, gaps in coverage, and corrections to published articles.

We started an online webpage: Reporter’s Alert. From time to time, we use Reporter’s Alert to present suggestions for important reporting on topics that are either not covered or not covered thoroughly. Reporting that just nibbles on the periphery won’t attract much public attention or be noticed by decision-makers. Here is the sixth installment of suggestions:

1. More states are recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day, giving rise to the need for a broad report on all the treaties tribal nations signed with the U.S. government that are still intact and that are still violated by the U.S. government. Recall for example, on Thursday July 9, 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court had occasion to recognize the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s rights to the land in much of Tulsa and eastern Oklahoma as being part of their reservation. (See, https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/19pdf/18-9526_9okb.pdf). There will be fascinating revelations from a report on this topic.

2. Numerous people have been asking me “What’s happened to all those lawsuits against Trump?” Trump has escaped the grips of the law for years, most recently the stalled civil justice (tort law) suits by several women claiming sexual assaults, by prosecutors in New York, Washington, D.C., and Georgia. Trump has even managed to escape, so far, depositions under oath, including one that Robert Mueller should have demanded. This is so remarkable that there should be a seminar at Harvard, Yale, and Georgetown Law Schools about how Trump has escaped, with all the ways his lawyers have shielded this serial outlaw from federal, state, and local laws.

To make his escapes more current, since Trump is a clear-cut violator of criminal statutes, including the Hatch Act and the Anti-Deficiency statute, obstruction of justice, again and again, brazenly and openly, one might expect the Justice Department should be readying some law enforcement. See letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland recounting the DOJ’s avoidance of its duties vis-à-vis Trump’s sexual violations, thus demonstrating that Donald J. Trump is indeed repeatedly ABOVE THE LAW. Also remarkable is that this topic has to be suggested to the Fourth Estate as a major, comprehensive inquiry.

3. State legislatures and governors in many states are using “pandemic” pretexts to eliminate rights and democratic procedures. In California, which has one of the more liberal legislatures, lawmakers are taking bills to the floor discarding past rules providing every bill have committee staff analysis and a legislative hearing with questions from legislators, and testimony from citizens. Assembly Bill 2167 is one such example, favoring the insurance industry. Imagine what more conservative state legislatures are doing. Also, the California State Assembly voted to allow votes on bills without members being present in the chamber, despite an opinion from the state’s legislative counsel that it likely violates the state Constitution.

Governors, citing the pandemic, have issued dubious executive orders that let vendors in healthcare avoid the tort laws for their negligent (or worse) injuries to innocent persons. For reporters, the quest is to find out how widespread these strictures have become and how permanent.

4. Sports injuries are more prevalent than ever before. Despite, more advanced knowledge, training, and self-care by athletes, professional teams are experiencing so many recurrent injuries that some sports announcers have started a regular “Injury Report” on sports radio. In baseball, injuries have become epidemic, when in the 1950s and 1960s they were quite rare. It is not a candidly discussed subject among the sports media and fans receive few if any explanations. The injury epidemic is so pronounced that the Yankees baseball radio announcer has started a daily Injury Report brought to you by an orthopedic practice ad in New York.

Some reasons suggested are (1) the players are bigger, and (2) the play is more strenuous. In baseball, pitchers’ arms start getting strained in their teenage years, given the dreams about throwing 100 miles per hour fastballs in the major leagues. These days after every pitch announcers note what the mph was. Tommy John operations are numerous every year. With the ever-greater emphasis on home runs, players are becoming muscle-bound with added risks of straining a ligament. Certainly today, baseball professionals have better equipment – helmets, gloves, safer shoes, and they are protected by padded walls in the outfield. These advances prevent injuries, yet today’s players are placed on the injury list far more than those in the past. What with the many years of covering up concussions in football etc., it seems important to look into this broad area. (See, leagueoffans.org). Sports reporters take note!

5. What’s happened to NASA? It has increasingly become an agency that outsources or contracts out, losing the technical and scientific capacity to better pay offers by the contractors. The brain drain is rampant: nearly 80% of NASA’s budget is contracted out. The Old NASA did far more things itself and kept its intellectual property close to the vest. NASA is now a shadow of itself, a trademark on press releases; so much so that it is losing control over policy and other matters to the contractors. A reporter should get copies of these contracts and see the extent of the multiple giveaways, corporate welfare, and undue influence taking the search all the way to congressional committees.

P.S. Next week from October 22-23, 2021, corporate crime specialists from around the world will attend the symposium at Georgetown Law Center titled, Imagining a World Without Corporate Criminal Law (Register for the event here).

It would be great to see some follow up to these suggestions from a journalist.  Any takers?

Covid-19 Vaccine Disinformation Specialist - Dr. Buttar

Photo: CNN

Doctors are charged with delivering life-saving services to their patients.  What happens when the physician who is supposedly caring for a person, decides to promote misinformation about life-saving medicines?  What are patients to do?  Who do they believe?  Especially, if the physician is never reprimanded by the Federation of Medical Physicians Board?

In the video below, CNN news anchor Drew Griffin interviews Dr. Buttar -- a physician who specializes in promoting misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine along with other medical claims:

This physician is a criminal.  He is playing with people's lives.  Promoting the misinformation about the vaccine is the exact reason why people have trouble trusting physicians for all types of treatment.  Unfortunately, physicians are allowed to hold a view that might be counter to a prevailing view held by a majority of physicians.

Although, when the scientific data states otherwise, a physician such as Dr. Buttar is now a thorn in the side of the medical profession.  At the very least, the medical license should be revoked.  Beware of physicians like Dr. Buttar spreading lies and putting unnecessary lives at risk.

Former Secretary of State General Powell Dies, Fox Turns His Death Into Vaccine Controversy - Sad

Photo: WVNS-TV

The United States of America has lost a true patriot.  The former Secretary of State -- General Colin Powell has passed away.  After a few years of fighting multiple myeloma cancer, General Powell lost a battle to complications with COVID-19.  Moments later, News agencies took to the wire to turn his passing into the controversy over COVID-19 vaccination mandates.  Which is extremely sad.

In the video below by CNN, News anchor Don Lemon discusses the disgusting nature of Fox News takes a patriot passing and turn it into a debate:

Wow!  What a pathetic news organization Fox News is?  Is that what they are all about?  Really?

William Shatner -- We Have No Time To Waste -- Invest In Climate Change Now

Photo: The Guardian

The commanding officer of Star Trek has now officially been to space.  William Shatner recently went into space into Jeff Bezo's space capsule to the outer edge of the Earth.  But he observed much more than that. It reminded me of an observation that astronauts frequently share about global warming and space.

Astronauts have remarked from space while looking at Earth: "We only have one Earth"

This is so true.  The time has come to take action to fight climate change.  Take global warming seriously.  In the video below, an interview with CNN Chris Cuomo, William Shatner shares the astronauts' observation about global warming and space:

The time to take action is now.  Call your elected representative in office and demand action.

A Few Steps Toward Achieving Greatness by Simon Sinek - Easy To Follow?

Photo: YouTube

Each of us strives to be a better person.  How better is defined is unique to each of us?  What I might consider better might differ greatly from what you consider 'better?  In fact, some people might hold views that are 180 degrees different that from you and me.  All in all, each of us would like to be better in our daily and long-term lives.  How is this accomplished?

How does a global prescription fulfill success in each of our lives?

Turns out that the common denominators toward success do not differ greatly right?  But the wording to tailor each of the common denominators might differ greatly from person to person.  What do I mean by this?

In the YouTube video below, motivational speaker Simon Sinek describes success as it pertains to leading organizations.  More specifically, Simon describes steps that each of us can take that would improve our daily lives below:

Each of us might not run a major corporation in the immediate future.  In fact, some of us never at all.  That does not mean that the rules do not apply toward running a household.  Or running a classroom full of students.  Or a research laboratory full of graduate students and postdoctoral students.

Rigid people would see the rules for change about and limit them only toward leading large corporations.  But flexible people - who are in the game of change to win will try to find similarities in their lives. Similarities in which they can apply to their own lives and be successful.

Can you find any?

In the video above, Simon Sinek tells a story about finishing a running race with a friend.  In the story, he shares the two ways to perceive the world.  His friend is asked by him if a fee bagel sounds attractive. The friend remarks that the line is too long to wait for a free bagel.  Simon Sinek responds that the bagel is free.  The friend responds that the line is too long.

One sees the opportunity - free bagel.

While the other see the barrier.

How do you think?

Are you holding yourself back by only viewing the barriers?

Sleep & Meditation by Kobe Bryant

Photo: Wikipedia

Would you like to increase the success rate in your life?  Would you like to feel more present every day? Health experts have varying advice for a successful outcome.  But what if the advice were to come from NBA Hall of Famer - Kobe Bryant (R.I.P)?  Would you be inclined to listen and consider advice from him more or less?

In the video below offered by Ariana Huffington (of the Huffington Post), Kobe Bryant discusses the power of meditation and sleep:

Phil Jackson's greatest gift to the Laker Basket Ball team might just have been the train the team to be more present.  Each of us could benefit from practicing mindfulness.  On top of mindfulness, meditation and winding down early before bed will increase your strength and energy levels throughout the day.

Trump Is A Clown

Photo: Biography.com

Actors know other actors.  At least that is what actor George Clooney recently said of former President Donald Trump.  When asked potentially running for office, Mr. Clooney expressed no interest at all.  Although, when confronted with the prospect of former President Trump running for a second term again, his remarks to the AP were:

“It’s so funny, because he was just this knucklehead,” Clooney said. “I knew him before he was a president. He was just a guy who was chasing girls. Every time you went out he’d be like, ‘What’s the name of that girl?’ That’s all he was.”

That is a good description of former President Trump. He still is quite amusing trying to push election lies and crowd size.  What would be good for the nation is if the Republican Party rid itself of former President Trump.  That would be a step in the right direction.

Republicans Let Trump Raise Deficit by 8 trillion But Cry Wolf Over Infrastructure Spending?

Photo: Big Rentz

Am I missing something here?  Where?  Here, looking at the interview below in which a Republican Senator from North Carolina asks Democrats to give a number to raise the debt ceiling?  President Biden meanwhile states that the raising of the debt ceiling has nothing to do with paying for the new infrastructure bill being rammed through Congress.

What is the deal here?

Watch the interview below by MSNBC and brace yourself for some major hypocrisy:

Republican Senators have no such foot to stand on.  Especially after letting former President Trump raise the deficit of 8 trillion dollars.  That is absurd.  The Democrats need to fire back and pass the infrastructure bills without hesitation.  This is ridiculous.

Facebook Algorithm Does Promotes Hate and Anti-Vaccine Sentiments

Photo: Facebook

Facebook finds itself in an awkward position this week as a whistleblower testifies on Capitol Hill in front of Congress.  The groundbreaking testimony has shattered the claims by CEO Mark Zuckerberg that Facebook as a company does not promote information but lets information flow freely without censoring.

In the video below by MSNBC, an interview with Center for Countering Digital Hate CEO Imran Ahmed discusses Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen's testimony -- which is worth watching:

Are we as a society really surprised that Facebook promotes a variety of hate-related information among its followers?  Once you search for a topic on Google or Bing, a rabbit hole is opened up for the user to read hours and hours of misinformation.  Be careful when discovering a rabbit hole.

Opinions aside, the government should regulate Facebook more tightly on promoting misinformation.  Mrs. Haugen's testimony supports such regulations.

What Evidence Did Trump Lawyer Use To Justify Voter Machine Fraud?

Photo: Vanity fair

Election fraud claims usually are backed up by actual evidence.  Evidence that back up allegations that there was indeed voter fraud.  But that is not how Rudy Gulliani operates.  Former Trump lawyer has been banned by Fox News among other damming news.  Other damming news consists of transcripts of testimony appearing in the news that shows Mr. Gulliani did not have evidence to support voter fraud claims.  Below is the short clip by MSNBC Rachel Maddow's Show:

This news should come as no surprise given the level of intellectual rigor that set the bar in the Trump White House was at a historical low among past presidential administrations.

What Does Jocko Willinck Think About Mask Mandates?

Photo: Reuters

Mask mandates across various parts of the United States have caused great disruption in certain social circles.  Not only social circles but various levels of society.  People do not like to be told that they do not have a choice.

In the following interview from the Jocko Willinck YouTube Channel, Jocko Willinck discusses his views on mask mandates and wearing a mask:

Just wear a mask and get over it.

Don't Mess With Trump On Newsmax Or You Will Get Cut

Photo: The Daily Beast

During the Trump presidency, Fox News was the direct news outlet of the White House.  Since the election, Fox News has dialed back to let Newsmax spring forward to be the front runner.  The only problem is that President Trump is no longer in office.  That does not matter to Newsmax news anchor Grant Stinchfield.

In a recent video on MSNBC, the highlight of the interview conducted of a Veteran of the Iraq War is interrupted and shut down because of putting down on former President Trump:

Where have we come as a world to have news outlets that shut people down for holding counterviews?  Fox News is famous for this, and now Newsmax is following.  Grant Stinchfield appears to be very insecure when someone has a view, not in line with his own conspiracy theories.  The fact of the matter is that former President Trump did make it difficult for American troops to come home.  But don't tell that to his supporters or news outlets.

Believe in Conspiracy Theories? That might cost Your Life

Photo: CNET

Ivermectin is out of the sale at veterinarian stores across certain states.  Which is greatly concerning.  Why?  Do you believe in conspiracy theories?  Are you an anti-vaxxer?  Carry on - of course, at your own risk.

The tragedy across the nation is the growth in the sale of a 'deworming' medication used on animals (primarily).  Yes, ivermectin is primarily for animals.  In certain cases, doctors have prescribed ivermectin in humans for the treatment of parasites.  In the video below, Dr. Patel explains the dangers associated with taking ivermectin for treatment of COVID-19:

I find the death of an anti-vaxxer sad because of misinformation.  That is completely avoidable.  Think about life before denying yourself treatment.  You may end up in the hospital and further complications - such as death.

Cost Of Inaction Toward Fighting Climate Change Increases Exponentially

Photo:  NOAA

The cost of infrastructure improvement throughout our nation may have skeptics from the right and left.  But just look at Hurricane Ida.  The damage done to the power grid alone is staggering.  In one article from the Associated Press, an estimated 22,000 power poles were destroyed by Ida -- more than Hurricanes Katrina, Delta, and Zeta combined:

Ida damaged or destroyed more than 22,000 power poles, more than hurricanes Katrina, Zeta and Delta combined, an impact Entergy President and CEO Phillip May called “staggering.” More than 5,200 transformers failed and nearly 26,000 spans of wire — the stretch of transmission wires between poles — were down.

That is hard to comprehend. So the next time you are outside, look at the street -- specifically at the power poles running down the street.  Then think about the 22,000 power poles that have been destroyed by Hurricane Ida.

How long does such a job take to repair and replace all 22,000 power poles?

Not to mention all of the destroyed wire that runs along those power poles and the transformers that sit on each power pole.  Oh my goodness.

What an endeavor to manage and take on?

In a recent interview on MSNBC Morning Joe, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm from the Department of Energy was interviewed about the costs of climate change heading into the future:

The costs are increasing exponentially over the years.  From the '80s, there was a doubling every decade to the increase from $50 billion to $150 billion each year to fight the effects of each damaging storm.

Yes, the damage done in Houston last year cost us (taxpayers) around $150 billion.  That money could have gone to other needed costs. Instead of spending money to improving our infrastructure, we choose as a nation to incur large amounts of unneeded costs with each storm.  And that does not take into account the costs associated with the displacement of Americans.

The time to act is now.  Waiting will only increase the costs over time.  Which is not a good idea for our nation and the residents that are constantly adversely impacted by such storms.  Tell your elected official to vote yes on infrastructure bills that combat climate change.

"System Error" -- Time to Energize American Citizens (and more) To Demand Action In Silicon Valley

Photo: Amazon.com

Social media, along with technology on a larger scale, has failed to make changes to safeguard our world.  Look to the last two presidential elections in the United States.  In the interest of 'free speech' has overruled the regulated space of social media companies.  More is needed from companies.  And much more is needed from our lawmakers -- in Washington D.C.-- Congress.

In the interview below by MSNBC Morning Joe, Authors of the new book titled "System Error" are briefly asked about the current environment.  Additionally, the next question is logical, where are we headed if no action is taken?  Finally, what action needs to be taken?  Watch and learn:

The idea of energizing citizens to take action and call on Washington D.C. to change the regulations and laws is not new.  What is new is the lack of action.  Where are the activists?  We live in a time where the world is hyperconnected, and there is little activism.  At least on the steps of Washington D.C.  We live in a time where collective action by citizens (electronically) would send the largest message in history to Congress, yet it is hard to execute in practice.  Why?

There are many pressing issues confronting our nation and world.  Collective action has always been a platform that I support.  Of course, collective action requires collective education (information gathering).  Each of us needs to be informed.  Then a discussion/action item can be pushed forward for change.

Texas Governor Aims To Please 10% of Texas Electorate - Extreme Right!

Photo: CNBC

Everything is big in Texas.  Big hair. Big belt buckles. Big cowboy hats.  And a large - the largest number of ICU beds in the entire country being occupied by COVID-19 patients.  Have a child with a heart problem?  You may be out of luck.  The laws being passed and challenged in the state of Texas are catering to the extreme right.  Which is dangerous to the rest of the nation.  Why?

Watch the interview on MSNBC below for more detail:

Texas is in a pretty bad state of affairs.  Time to wake up Texans and take control of that chaos occurring down there in your area.

Fox News Host Gets A Constitutional Law Education On Vaccine Mandate

Photo: Yahoo

Fox News Hosts are professional misinformation spreaders.  Give them misinformation and bam -- that information will travel faster than the speed of light.  Ok, not faster than the speed of light, but pretty dam fast.  Now, add into the mix the public's mixed feelings about wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  You now have a disaster on your hands.  Which is where we sit today.

Out of the blue, Harvard Law Constitutional Law Professor Alan Derschowitz offers a beautiful education to Fox News Host Laura Ingraham about mask mandates and vaccines in the video below:

Laura Ingraham cannot fathom that her opinion is not popular among Harvard Law Professors.  Wow!

The fact is that 99.5% of deaths due to COVID-19 over the last few months have been among those citizens who have chosen to NOT BE VACCINATED.

Therefore, the choice is obvious:  Get the vaccine or take a larger chance at landing in the hospital or worse!  The decision is yours!

Texas Lawmakers Want To Turn Abortion Law Back To Medieval Times

Photo: Vox

The Supreme Court has chosen not to take up a case to overturn a ban on Abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy.  This amounts to is to pass the authority to abortion activists the power to make money by turning clinicians and enablers of abortion into authorities.  Not only to turn enablers into authorities but to make money off of the act.  Which is crazy.

In the video below by MSNBC, former solicitor general Neal Katyal is interviewed about the decision by the Supreme Court to turn the case away (i.e. back to lower courts):

Following up what Mr. Katyal stated about the ability of Congress to act and change the law surrounding abortions, the video below from MSNBC is an interview by Joy Reid with Senator Elizabeth Warren discussing such an action:

Congress should act.  As was stated in the video above, the world does seem to be headed toward the terrible situation popularized in the show 'The Handmaid's Tale.'  In which, a few in a minority conservative group take over the United States.  One in which, abortion does still occur among the rich, but is not discussed.  One in which, the people not in-line with the powerful religious group suffer and become slaves to the small wealthy class.  This is crazy.

Trump Attorneys Are Referred To Judicial Disciplinary Action From Spreading Election Misinformation

Photo: Los Angeles Times

Spreading misinformation is not against the law if the spreader is a private citizen who is operating on social media.  Although, the rules of spreading misinformation changes when that private citizen is also an officer of the Judicial system (i.e., a lawyer).  Back in November of 2020, an army of Trump lawyers were touting across the states that voter fraud had been occuring. On a large scale.  Judgment after judgment came down from courts across the United States disproving allegations of voter fraud.

Now, in one of those courts, a judge has gone further and recommended disciplinary action for lawyers who have spread misinformation about voter fraud.  In the excerpt below from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show, the rulings are highlighted along with the language which could result in disciplinary actions for the lawyers listed:

The lesson outlined in the video above is a take-away message for attorneys all around the United States.  Don't spread misinformation outside of a courtroom prior or after walking into a court of law and having a case thrown out (or dismissed) based on lack of evidence.  You are just wasting the public's time and the courts time too -- which is the publics time.  Hopefully, these lawyers will be disciplined for the misinformation that has helped further divide our country.

How Far Will Conservatives Go With Robocalls To Suppress Voter Turnout?

Photo: TechCrunch.com

How far will the opposing side go to suppress voter turnout?  How low will people go?  Pretty low.  Recently, news outlets have been circulating a story of 'Washington Operatives' that have been involved in smearing campaigns for former President Trump.  Now, the operatives find themselves in increasingly greater trouble.  Why?

Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl are the operatives that are mentioned in numerous articles lately surrounding the breaking news.  The deeper that a person digs will find that one operative -- Jacob Wohl -- has been involved in numerous scandals or smear campaigns

The two operatives listed above were recently (as in the last Presidential Election) investigated by the FCC for their attempt through Robocalls in various states.  These robocalls were discriminatory and attempted to obstruct voter suppression.  The story was carried by MSNBC's Rachel Maddow's show, in the video below:

I guess that this is the new norm?  We should all be aware of these illegal efforts moving forward.  Look out for such scams.  Congress should look further into the illegal method of scamming voters.  In the meantime, the responsibility lies in the hands of the voters.  This is unfortunate given that our politicians cannot regulate the space

What Is Your Learned Talent? Undiscovered or Not?

Photo: SeeItLive.CO

Each of us has a special talent.  Although, some talents stand out more than others among us.  Below is a video interview of the 'World's Fastest Talking Man' - John Moschitta, Jr.-- check it out:

I bet the competition for announcers at the end of car commercials -- or any other commercials -- for disclaimer was not large.  Therefore, Mr. Moschitta might have had a wealth of speaking opportunities over the course of his lifetime.  As long as his voice did not give out.

Florida Doctors Walkout Of Hospital In Protest

Photo: MSNBC

As the workweek begins, Floridians are faced with doctors at a local hospital staging a 'walkout' in protest of patients arriving with COVID-19 who have not been vaccinated.  Yes, a doctor's duty is to heal any patient to the best of their ability.  Even if the patient chooses not to treat themselves to the best of their own ability.   Although, the denial of vaccination efficacy along with the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases among those who have not been vaccinated has caused problems.

What type of problems?

In Northern Texas, hospitals are completely out of 'child ICU beds'.  This means that if your child needs an ICU bed, that child might be deprived of an ICU bed because of a reckless choice made by another child's parents and relatives.

Over 75 doctors walked out of a Florida hospital this morning in protest.  Below is a video of an interview conducted with one of the doctors by MSNBC:

Get vaccinated please.  The science is present and shows that vaccinations work.
