Social media, along with technology on a larger scale, has failed to make changes to safeguard our world. Look to the last two presidential elections in the United States. In the interest of 'free speech' has overruled the regulated space of social media companies. More is needed from companies. And much more is needed from our lawmakers -- in Washington D.C.-- Congress.
In the interview below by MSNBC Morning Joe, Authors of the new book titled "System Error" are briefly asked about the current environment. Additionally, the next question is logical, where are we headed if no action is taken? Finally, what action needs to be taken? Watch and learn:
The idea of energizing citizens to take action and call on Washington D.C. to change the regulations and laws is not new. What is new is the lack of action. Where are the activists? We live in a time where the world is hyperconnected, and there is little activism. At least on the steps of Washington D.C. We live in a time where collective action by citizens (electronically) would send the largest message in history to Congress, yet it is hard to execute in practice. Why?
There are many pressing issues confronting our nation and world. Collective action has always been a platform that I support. Of course, collective action requires collective education (information gathering). Each of us needs to be informed. Then a discussion/action item can be pushed forward for change.
